Real estate development executive Kenneth Hart is the founder of Veracity Partners based in New York City, NY. Kenneth “Ken” Hart led one of Veracity Partners' projects which received several awards, including the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Global Award for Excellence in recognition of the company’s renovation of Empire Stores in Brooklyn, NY.
Empire Stores was previously a century-old warehouse sitting on 1.2 acres located along New York’s Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass (DUMBO) waterfront. It has been a landmark for decades thanks to its unique architecture (schist structural walls and masonry façade) and its location as a block between Brooklyn Bridge Park and Water Street. Following the renovation by Veracity Partners, Empire Stores transformed into a modern workplace with 380,000 square feet spread out over five floors. The contractors made several changes to the warehouse while maintaining its architectural design. For example, they cut part of the building’s masonry to create a walkway through it, connecting Water Street and the park. They also extended the park into the building with a 7,000 square foot publicly-accessible terrace. Today, the building is fully leased with tenants including West Elm, Brooklyn Historical Society, and restaurants. The former warehouse is now a community hub in the middle of Brooklyn’s Tech Triangle.
